- Job production: It is the production of something for a specific customer or small quantities produced but not mass production. Each item is prepared individually and gets a finishing touch before the next production is started. It may include designer dresses, designer watches, and even designer cars.
- Outlining the decision-making process.
- List of the specification should be set.
- It has a higher cost of production.
- It may include a reassessment of the designs and procedures for every production, every time.
- It may require the use of specialized workforce which may also be costly.
- It is a slow method as compared to other methods of production
Limitations of batch production:
1) Work-in-progress: As the work, content is varied due to different components, the formation of queues in production and improper manufacturing times the work-in-progress takes a long time to complete. 2) The need of Planning and Control: All the functions in a batch production needs proper planning and control of all processes. These processes are more complex than job production or flow production. 3) Change in machinery: When the production schedule changes there is a need to change the machinery also. This completely stops the work and the workforce has to sit idle.- Flow production: It is the production of something on an assembly line. Here same types of items are produced on a conveyer belt usually by the mechanized robotic arms. Large assembly lines are present in large concerns. The workers have specific jobs at regular intervals on the assembly line.
